There's plenty of opportunity to get your business' financial house in order for April 15. If you're a business owner who scrambles at tax time, Your Administrative Solutions has some quick tips to banish the overwhelm.
DEARY, ID, March 07, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The calendar still says March, so there's plenty of opportunity to get your business' financial house in order for April 15. If you're a business owner who scrambles at tax time, Your Administrative Solutions has some quick tips to banish the overwhelm, placing you on the right path for a smoother tax season.
"Make it easy on yourself! Not all businesses need a high tech computer accounting program," says Fran McCully, owner of Your Administrative Solutions. "Most accounting services would rather have your box of receipts than a spreadsheet where items are miscategorized or just plain missing. Track everything with pencil and paper if you like, as long as you collect and maintain basic information in a systematic manner. The more tax deductions your small business can take, the lower its taxable profit will be."
McCully suggests these simple tips to stay on top of your business accounting:
• Track your income and spending habits by keeping W-2s and 1099s. Save receipts, even in a shoebox, but only those related to the business. This includes supporting documentation for a purchase.
• Categorize expenses. Don't forget commonly overlooked deductions like CDs/DVDs related to business skills; bank service charges; business association dues and business magazines and books.
• Review your credit card and bank statements. Have purchases and deposits cleared? If not, why not?
