Grassi & Co. Tax Principal David Shuster Named A Long Island Business News 2011 Leadership In Law Honoree

Shuster, JD, LLM, Tax Principal, has been inducted into LIBN's Leadership In Law Class of 2011 for the In-house Counsel category. David's extensive law background has earned him this recognition, which honors attorneys not associated with a law firm who practice in the legal departments of corporations, associations and other private-sector organizations; whose contributions lead to the success of their clients through advocacy, department management, compliance and quality initiatives, cost control and public policy activities; participation in professional associations; mentoring or serving as a role model; volunteer or pro bono public service; and civic or community involvement.

Long Island Business News created the Leadership in Law Awards to recognize those individuals whose dedication to excellence and leadership, both in the legal profession and in the community, has had a positive impact on Long Island.

David began his career at the United States Department of Justice where he was appellate counsel to the government in a wide variety of tax cases. There he briefed and orally argued cases in nearly all of the federal circuit courts of appeals. He also advised and assisted the Solicitor General's office in its Supreme Court litigation. Prior to joining Grassi, David was a Tax Partner at an international law firm, where he focused on tax controversy, planning, and compliance issues.

Currently a Tax Principal at Grassi & Co., and serving as its Director of Tax Controversy Services, David focuses on advising and representing clients in their controversies with the IRS and state taxing authorities. He also advises corporations, partnerships, private foundations, public charities, and individuals in federal and state tax planning and compliance.

Awardees were selected by a committee of business leaders based on the biographical information sent to us reflecting career and professional accomplishments. All awardees will be honored at a special gala dinner that will be held on Monday, Nov. 14 at The Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
